Move like a local: How to Get Around

MTCC Ferry Schedule

Getting around the Maldives doesn't have to involve expensive seaplanes and, in this case, you don’t even need a speedboat. MTCC (Maldives Transport and Contracting Company) regularly operates a ferry between these islands, offering a comfortable and incredibly affordable way to navigate in between islands.  For example, a speedboat transfer to Huraa might cost around $10, whereas the local MTCC ferry would cost less than $2 – that's an $8 saving right there!  These ferries operate daily except Fridays, making it easy to plan your itinerary.

Island Hopping Itinerary:

Himmafushi:  Your journey begins as you board the afternoon ferry at 14:30hrs. Himmafushi, known for its popular surf break “Jailbreaks” is a dream come true for surfers. From over 10 guesthouses and multiple restaurants to choose from, you are spoiled for choice. Compared to its distant and albeit more popular cousin Maafushi, Himmafushi is a lot less crowded and offers a more laidback experience.

Huraa Bikini Beach

Huraa:  Next stop, Huraa! This island boasts one of the best bikini beaches in the Maldives, perfect for soaking up the sun and indulging in water activities. But Huraa offers more than just stunning beaches.  The island is also home to a protected ecological treasure – a mesmerizing mangrove forest. Explore The Bilimbi Guesthouse, a haven for budget-conscious travelers seeking comfort and a chance to connect with the local community.

Thulusdhoo:  Thulusdhoo another surfing paradise, is known for having two of the most popular breaks in North Male’ Atoll. Cokes, A world class right and Chickens, the fastest breaking wave in the area with amazing barrels. For all the non-surfers out there, don’t worry. Thulusdhoo has a lot more to offer, amazing beaches all around the island and hotels ranging from luxurious to budget friendly.

Dhiffushi:  Your final stop is Dhiffushi, another island renowned for its natural beauty and authentic charm. The furthest from Male’, Dhiffushi is renowned for having some of the best reefs around. Don’t miss out on your chance to scuba or snorkel at either Reethi Faru, Asdhoo Wreck or Coral Garden

At the end of your Island Hopping adventure, you can either choose to board the same MTCC Ferry back to Male’ or catch a speedboat (http://altecmaldives.com/dhiffushi-ferry/) from Dhiffushi directly to the airport!
